The Annapolis Way

When Annapolis Powerboat School was established over 10 years ago, it was built on the principle that hands-on experience was the best way to give a boater the knowledge and confidence needed to enjoy the recreational sport. This philosophy came to be known as the “Annapolis Way” and it has translated easily and effectively to the Annapolis powerboat School. Whether it is the two-day handling course or the five-day cruising course, the curriculum is largely based on the student pending time under way on the school’s powerboats learning safe docking, navigation and operation. When the student completes the course, familiarity with basic skills leads to a desire to build on that foundation by further experience.“Recreational boating should be fun”, states Tim Dowling, President of Annapolis Powerboat School. “We want our students to feel confident enough in a powerboat that they can fully enjoy the experience.” Should students want to extend the instruction beyond the established courses offered by the School, it is possible to arrange private instruction. “More and more people are recognizing the benefits and pleasures of powerboating,” said Rick Franke, General Manager of the School. “We are constantly evaluating the courses to make sure we are current with our students’ requirements.”
